Our School.....

Rahara National School is a two-teacher school situated in South Roscommon nine miles north of Athlone. There are 31 pupils on roll at present. The school was refurbished in 1996 and transformed into a modern, comfortable building. The school is the hub of the area. It has some community uses outside school hours.The First Communion party is held in the school every year. The present members of the Board of Management are: Fr Donal Morris, Canon P. Lavin, Mrs R. Costello, Ms M. Harlow, Mr. W. Fallon, Mrs M. Murray, Mrs H. Martin and Mr. D. Connaughton.

Many young families have settled in the area in recent times. The Curriculum of the school consists of Irish, English, Mathematics, Religion, S.E.S.E. (Social, Environmental & Scientific Education including History, Geography). S.P.H.E. (Social, Personal , Health Ed.) Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Computer Studies. In June 2009 work began on the istallation of an interactive whiteboard in each of the two classrooms and these are now in operation.

There are 8 classes and 2 classroom teachers, Mrs. Ruth Costello (Principal), Ms. Marian Harlow and one classroom assistant, Rory Silke. Ms Ciara Naughton is our shared learning support teacher. Ms N. Fallon is our shared resource teacher.Mrs Carroll Behan teaches music in our school. School opens at 9.20a.m.and finishes at 3.00p.m. The school is wheelchair accessible. We have a large tarmacadamed yard where the children can play basketball, tennis and yard soccer. We also have a large playing field. Here the children play hurling, football and soccer.
