Congratulations to Lorraine Moran, 4th class, who won a bronze medal in the Connacht Minor Schools Swimming Championship in Athlone recently. Lorraine finished in 3rd place in the U.10 Freestyle 50m swimming event. This secures Lorraine a place in the All-Ireland Minor Schools Championship in Dublin. Lorraine also qualified for the U.10 backcrawl 50m swimming event coming in 5th place.
Lorraine will represent Rahara NS in the All- Ireland Minor Schools Championship in the National Aquatic Centre on the 12th of February. We wish her every success in the Championship gala in February!
Continuous Professional Development
A facilitator from the PDST (Professional Development Services for Teachers) visited Rahara NS on Tuesday 6th December to assist teachers in the delivery of the Oral Language strand of the English curriculum. The staff received excellent feedback from the facilitator today, who commented on the high level of oral literacy in our school.
Whole staff training in First Aid will take place in Rahara on Tuesday 6th December between 3-6pm.
Mrs McGowan attended a Physical Literacy Course in Kilbride GAA on Monday 28th November between 4-6pm.
Holy Day – 8th December
All pupils will attend mass in Rahara Church this Thursday 8th December to observe the Holy Day.
OM Christmas Show
The OM Christmas Show took place in Rahara NS on Monday 5th December. Another entertaining show was delivered by the OM crew whilst delivering the true meaning of Christmas.
The Junior room pupils will attend a show, ‘Frosty the Snowman’ in the Dean Crowe Theatre on Monday 19th December at 10:30am. A bus will be provided to/from the event. There will be no charge for this event.
Our Homework Club is proving to be a huge success, to date. The cost of the club is €5 per day from 3-4:30pm, Monday-Thursday. Please ensure your child brings a healthy snack for Homework Club as this is part of our schools Healthy Eating Policy.
Thanks you to everyone who has paid their book bills. If you have not yet paid your bill, maybe you could do so at your earliest convenience.
Swimming will take place on Mondays in January and February. Swimming is part of the PE Curriculum under the strand ‘aquatics’, therefore we strongly encourage all parents to consent to the curriculum based activity. Swimming can be paid in a lump sum or in instalments and is not due until 27th February 2017.
School will close on Thursday 22nd December at 12:30pm and re-open on Monday 9th January 2017. (Don’t forget your swimming gear!)
