Open Evening

Our open evening will take place on Wednesday 1st March between 6-7 pm. If you know of anyone scheduled to start school in September ’17 or anyone contemplating changing schools, please inform them about our upcoming open evening!


Our 7th and final swimming lesson will take place on Thursday 16th February from 11-12. There will be two lessons on that week, as we are closed for Mid-Term on week 7.

Please return all monies to the school before Mid-Term, thank you.

Best of luck to Lorraine Moran who will represent Rahara NS this Sunday 12th February at the All-Ireland Minor Schools Gala in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. This is a huge achievement for Lorraine and we are very proud of her!


Mid-Term Break

School will close @ 3pm on Friday 17th February for Mid- Term. School will re-open on Monday 27th February @ 9:20am.

One Good Idea

Congratulations to our four 6th class pupils, Megan, Evan, Abbie & Jessica, who were chosen as one of the top 20 projects in the One Good Idea competition. The pupils must code their online food miles tool on Scratch and create a campaign about food miles. The team must prepare a PowerPoint and a four minute presentation for the judges.



Hurling takes place on Tuesdays.

After Mid-term, Gaelic trainer, John Touhey will resume Gaelic training on Fridays.

Soccer training takes place on Thursdays.

Full school uniform should be worn on Mondays & Wednesdays after Mid-Term. (Grey trousers/skirt, navy jumper & blue polo shirt)



Senior pupils will participate in knitting activities after Mid-Term. We are delighted to welcome Moira Burns and Pauline Hocking to our school. Both Moira & Pauline have volunteered to deliver the lessons along-side Mrs. Costello. We are looking forward to learning how to knit!


Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017

All pupils will engage in Irish activities during this week (13th -16th March). Pupils will be encouraged to use the language as much as possible during SNAG. Lá Glas (Green day) will take place on Thursday 16th March and pupils are invited to dress-up in anything green!


St. Patrick’s Day

School will be closed on Friday 17th March for St. Patrick’s day.


Green Schools

The pupils and staff are very busy preparing for our 7th Green Flag inspection which will take place in Mid-March.

Our Green Schools “Action Day” will take place on Pancake Tuesday, 28th February. This coincides with Fairtrade Fortnight. The pupils will make pancakes using fairtrade ingredients!


Book Bills

Thanks you to everyone who has paid their book bills. If you have not yet paid your bill, please do so as soon as possible.

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day takes place on Tuesday 7th February. All pupils will participate in lessons about internet safety.

Rahara Parent & Toddler Group

The Parent & Toddler Group will be set-up over the coming weeks. This will take place in the school hall and will not interfere with the day to day running of our school. Please share with your friends & family!


Operation Transformation

This week all classes are participating in the “10 at 10” challenge. All pupils and staff participate in exercises at 10am for 10 minutes daily! You can do these at home too!

Confirmation Retreat

6th class pupils will travel to Knock on Wednesday 15th February to participate in their Confirmation retreat. The bus will depart from Knockcroghery NS at 8:30 sharp and return at approx 4pm. The cost is €10. Pupils may wear casual clothes and bring a packed lunch


Confirmation will take place in Knockcroghery church @ 11am on Tuesday 21st March.

World Book Day

World Book Day will be celebrated in our school on Thursday 2nd March. Pupils may dress-up as any character from any book!


TY Student

Past pupil, Lauren McDermott, will carry out 2 weeks work experience in our school from 27th Feb – 10th March.
