Green Schools- Marine Environment

Dr. David McGrath visited our school on Tuesday 25th September. David is a Marine Biologist and taught pupils about tides and marine biodiversity.

A follow on field-trip for all pupils will take place this Thursday 27th to Silver Strand, Galway. The bus will depart @ 9am sharp and return to the school for 3pm. Pupils must wear warm clothes, coats, hats and wellies. Please ensure you child brings a spare pair of trousers, socks & shoes, a packed lunch and drinks. Children may bring €5 spending money as we will stop at the Galway Plaza enroute home.

Roscommon County Council is funding this initiative in conjunction with the Heritage Council.


Bus transport

The cost of hiring buses is ever increasing and is one of the biggest expenses in our school budget. In future, we are asking parents to contribute €5 per pupil per bus trip.


Referendum

Rahara NS will be closed on Friday 26th October for the upcoming elections.


Mid-Term Break

School will close on Thursday 25th October @ 3pm and re-open on Monday 5th November @ 9:20am.


Staff

Our new SEN teacher is Mr. Kelly. Mr. Kelly will teach in Rahara NS four days per week, Tue – Fri.

Mr. McCormack will teach in the Junior Room until Halloween. Mrs. McGowan will return from maternity leave on the 5th November.

Dylan Donnelly, TY student, will assist in our school every Thursday during Term 1.

Danielle Saunderson, TY student, will carry out work experience in Rahara NS between 8th – 19th October.



Principal Release Days

Ms. Niamh Watson has been employed as a fixed-term substitute teacher to cover all of Mrs. Costello’s Principal Release Days for 2018-2019.


Healthy Lunches

Pupils are allowed to bring one small treat with their lunch on Friday’s ONLY!!

 

Homework club

Our homework club continues Monday – Thursday with Teresa Nally.


Tree Day 2018

The pupils will travel to St. John’s Woods on Wednesday 10th October to participate in a “Woodland Wonders” fieldtrip. This will be led by Arboriculturalist, Shailagh Healy. A bus will bring pupils to/from St. John’s woods.


Sports/ PE

Please ensure your child wears plain navy/black tracksuit bottoms (no logos) on P.E days.

Hurling – Tuesday

Soccer – Thursday

Gaelic – Friday

Each class receives 30 minutes tuition per session.


Goal Jersey Day

Goal Jersey day will take place on Friday 12th October. Please bring in €2 donation for GOAL.
