WW1 History Field Trip

The senior pupils travelled to Ballyjamesduff on Friday 28th November to visit Cavan County Museum and the WW1 Trench experience. This was a brilliant opportunity for the children to explore the WW1 trench experience. For more information visit : www.cavanmuseum.ie

Cash for Clobber

We would like to thank you all for all your clothing donations. We collected 42 bags of recyclable materials and raised €130 for our school.

Green Flag

All pupils are developing a Green Schools “Global citizenship – litter & waste” code and poster. On Thursday 18th December 1st – 6th class pupils participated in a Skype call with scientist, Leighton Rolley, who is on board a research ship in the Pacific Ocean. The children asked the scientist questions about his job and the problem of rubbish in our oceans and the “Pacific Garbage Patch”. He encouraged us to recycle ALL our rubbish and prevent further pollution.

All pupils participated in a SEAI energy workshop in school on Friday last 12th December.

A Wooly Nice Tale

OM Ireland visited our school on Tuesday 16th December and the children enjoyed a performance of “A Wooly Nice Tale”. This was a fantastic production and embraced the true meaning of Christmas.

Aistear

We are collecting items associated with restaurants for role-play in the junior room. We are also low on materials for “junk art” and would appreciate any materials people gather over the holidays e.g. old decorations, sweet/wrapping paper, tins, boxes, etc.

Staff

Mrs. Costello will take graduation leave on 5th & 6th January 2015. Mrs. Costello is graduating from Waterford IT with a Masters in Management in Education. Mrs. Burke and Ms. O’Reilly will cover both days.

Christmas Break

Term 2 begins on Monday 5th January 2015 @ 9;20am

Primary Online Database (POD)

Please fill in and return the POD form to school, if you have not already done so. The school is required to enter this data onto the Departments POD system. If you require another copy of the form, please contact us at the school.

Blue Star Award

Senior pupils interviewed Luke Ming Flanagan, MEP on Friday 12th December. Mr Flanagan spent an hour and a half with the pupils and answered all the questions they had prepared for him. Now the pupils will create a project entitled “A day in the life of an MEP”.

County Photos

County photo will be visiting Rahara NS to take individual/family photos on Friday 9th January 2015.

Junior Entrepreneur Programme

The senior room will participate in the JEP over 10-12 week period during Jan – March 2015. Pupils will generate individual and team project ideas and through a process of negotiation, presentation and pitching to the “Dragons” the pupils will reach agreement on their JEP “Big Idea”. Pupils are allowed to brainstorm at home with family about a product or service they would like to design, develop, market and sell. We are looking forward to starting the JEP in 2015!

Happy Christmas

The staff of Rahara NS wish you all a Holy and Peaceful Christmas and health and happiness in 2015!
